Animals. The subject of so much controversy, from the personal lives of everyday people to the complicated ones of celebrities. Some people love their pets so much, you might wonder just how far they would go for them (and, if it came down to you or them, which would that person save?). At any rate, there is no shortage of discussion for both pet-lovers and haters, or even those floating around in the middle.

Along with all of this conversation (and perhaps, because of it), many misconceptions arise about how to take care of each pet. It is easy for these truth-lacking tips to proliferate as so many people look for answers to their problems, but we must be careful to take out those which are definitely true and backed by a professional medical or related opinion.

FML - The Blog of Fail, a.k.a. the Deadmau5 blog

For those of you who may or may not know the incredibly popular artist deadmau5 (though, if you don't know him, I am honestly a bit surprised), you can actually read some of his very random ramblings in blog format. Yes, deadmau5, a.k.a. Joel, actually has his own blog that he updates with what I can only assume is one of the slowest update times of any blog I have read.

The blog doesn't have any really official name on the site -- going by '0.5 - blog' and simply 'Deadmau5,' and going by 'FML - The Blog of Fail' on Blogger -- so I titled this post 'FML - The Blog of Fail, a.k.a. the Deadmau5 blog' for the sake of simplicity, and simplicity seems to be the name of the game with the overall design of the blog itself.

The first thing I notice is the minimalist layout - no ads, no sidebar, no dates or twitter feed. Just the posts themselves, in rather smaller font. This isn't too bad though, because it's fairly symbolic of deadmau5's ability to simplify and 'tune out' the unimportant stuff sometimes.

Though I don't always agree with the stuff he is posting, it seems that he has his opinion and feels strongly about it. Gathering from his most recent post on a piece of fanmail, he doesn't really care if you like it or not, either.

Life in General

Science is a vastly under-appreciated niche in the world of blogging. Many people don't find science all that interesting to begin with, and sometimes you can't really blame them -- it's hard to get into a subject like that when the people explaining won't  tell you much of what you need to know before hand. Starting from the beginning, or from an easy-to-understand area, is a concept many seem to not get.

While the blog I am featuring today, "Life in General," isn't a perfect match for those looking to jump into science without any previous understanding, it is definitely a pretty good fit for those who already have some knowledge of chemistry and physics from school or personal education.

Here's an example of something you could learn on this great blog:

"In ground state the number of electrons is equal to the number of protons giving the atom a neutral charge.

In excited charge status the atom has lost/gain electrons, this can be because of a chemical reaction or radiation.

Sodium (Na) has 11 electrons, but what happens with excited Sodium (Na⁺¹)

As you can see the charge of Sodium is +1, that indicates that the atom has lost 1 negative charge being that an electron; so excited sodium has 10 electrons, 1 less than its ground state."

Okay, so maybe I'm a bit biased towards the blogs of icycooL, but give me a break -- they're good stuff! Since today is the Friday spotlight for new but promising blogs, I think this one is just as deserving as the last. So, let me introduce to my loyal readers: Ultimate Car Garage!

Cars are beautiful machines. They are incredibly complex, and to fully understand them requires years of time and labor. It would not be fair to the automobiles to say that they can be completely comprehended in a summary; however, icycooL hopes to deliver a little bit of basic knowledge so that some readers may take the first steps into understanding.

Electronic Music

Music taste varies widely, with the range of preference expanding from pop to metal, and even further beyond. Rarely does the interest of one individual match with another exactly, and this is the very interesting process that creates the unique collection of music.

One rising star of the music world is that of electronic music. Electronic music goes back a couple of decades, but never became truly popular until recently. Now, clubs play anything from techno to trance, house to drum and bass.

Whether or not you're a huge fan of one, or the other, if you're even remotely interested in electronic music of any kind, the blog Electronic Music can help you out there. Here's a taste of the music one can find on this blog:

Bored Olives: Revisitied

I was thinking of what I could do to spice up Blogographer a bit, as well as thinking about how I can get people to visit those truly incredible blogs from the archives that I'm sure don't get seen much anymore. Inevitably, those two thoughts collided and meshed to make a great idea: "Blog" Revisited!

Every month, I will 'revisit' a blog that I have featured in the past, one that I believe truly deserves to be dug up and seen again by those readers who may not have had the chance to see it before (hopefully my readers aren't so transitory that this might be entirely necessary, but rather fun, haha!).

A little more than five months ago, in December of 2010, I did a blog feature on Bored Olives, one of my favorite blogs on the internet since the night I discovered it.

The blog, written by the affectionate Stephen Davis, is based on the supposedly true story of two star-crossed lovers (to use the perfect Shakespeare quote for the moment) who, when I first posted, seemed destined to skirt along the edges of passion and love eternally, their fates ever pulling them apart.

Well, it's quite easy to say that things have changed in the world of protagonists Dom and Stacey! I'll avoid serious spoilers, but to sum it up, the two have finally done something about their relationship, and drama is beginning to really sprout up around them on it! The story gets thicker and thicker with each new e-mail released.

Techinit

One of the most popular subjects in our day and age is technology, and the writer at Techinit knows that well.

Techinit, a blog on (you guessed it!) technology, is written by Willy Wade, a self-proclaimed nerd and guru with tech. If you visited his blog, you'd proclaim it, too! Sometimes, the tech talk is actually almost a bit confusing, but then again, I may just not know enough myself.

Here's an example of what you can expect:

"HTC Sensation (Engadget, Gizmodo)

• Despite being a pretty evangelical HTC user, I've never really liked HTC's Sense UI. But with it's 3rd incarnation upon us, it looks set to finally take my heart. If that doesn't go to plan, I bet this girl would FLY with a stock ROM on her."

While the content is wonderful, this particular blog could use some improvements. The most noticeable would be to the design of the site. The light green doesn't really flatter the blog as well as it should, and it's a pretty plain layout. Another problem is that there's an obscene lack of pictures, especially on a blog where people are dying to see what it being talked about.

However, Techinit's content redeems the blog and keeps me coming back. For the latest on tech, whether it be phones or game systems, check out Techinit.

Bored Olives

"An email love story"

'An email love story' - that so aptly describes the blog that I think anything else would not have done perfect justice.

Bored Olives is written by the warm personality of Stephen Davis, who claims he was constructing a computer from secondhand parts when he realized the hard drive had not been erased. He says he began to peek through the contents of the previous owner, finding saved e-mails that unfurled a bumpy romance between the nihilistic Stacey Marchenkova and the witty Dom Borax.

Stephen Davis posts one to several of the e-mails every Sunday and Wednesday, depending on the size of the e-mails involved. What's even more surprising than the luck Stephen had when he stumbled upon a complete record of the quirky e-mail romance is the conversation that happens below the post.

Readers comment by the dozens, leaving their own opinion on what they think about the particular e-mail, and how the relationship has played out so far. They speculate where it will go, and even form 'teams' - Team Stacey, Team Dom, Team S&D (Stacey and Dom), etc. Even I must confess that I have a tendency to relate myself to Team Dom, but that may be because I'm a guy and I get where he's coming from much of the time.

There was a slight controversy over how real this whole thing might be; understandable, considering it makes the reader quite emotional to go through all of these e-mails at once. However, this blog is more than just whether or not Bored Olives is a facts-based account or a clever tale. It's a story about just what romance can do to people, such as the way Stacey's outlook on the world is distorted by her feelings, and Dom is consumed with winning over Stacey with his intellect, his wit, and his subtle hints.
