icycooL's: Revisited

Almost three months ago, I reviewed a blog that was, at the time, new and upcoming that goes by the name icycooL's. The blog writer, the eponymous icycooL, is a close friend of mine outside of the blogosphere, and when he created his blog, I felt that I definitely needed to let people know about it. If you don't quite remember how the blog went, here is a bit of a refresher:

"Today's blog spotlight gets shined down upon icycooL's, a gaming blog that is set to feature reviews, rants, and whatnot about the gaming industry. It's fairly new, but the first post is definitely a promising read if games are your thing (even more so if you're a fan of Mass Effect or their developer, BioWare)."

The blog has been running strong since, and there are quite a few new quality posts about the latest and greatest in the videogaming industry. Game on at icycooL's!

Ultimate Car Garage

Okay, so maybe I'm a bit biased towards the blogs of icycooL, but give me a break -- they're good stuff! Since today is the Friday spotlight for new but promising blogs, I think this one is just as deserving as the last. So, let me introduce to my loyal readers: Ultimate Car Garage!

Cars are beautiful machines. They are incredibly complex, and to fully understand them requires years of time and labor. It would not be fair to the automobiles to say that they can be completely comprehended in a summary; however, icycooL hopes to deliver a little bit of basic knowledge so that some readers may take the first steps into understanding.

icycooL's

Today's blog spotlight gets shined down upon icycooL's, a gaming blog that is set to feature reviews, rants, and whatnot about the gaming industry. It's fairly new, but the first post is definitely a promising read if games are your thing (even more so if you're a fan of Mass Effect or their developer, BioWare).

You'll find the style of his game reviews refreshing (one might say it's icy cool), as there's very little of the elitist attitude that follows the lines of 'all games suck, but there's some that suck less than others.' He also doesn't tout the popularity of a game as a strong point, like most game magazines do. Honestly, how often do you open GameInformer or some other game magazine just to see that the new Call of Duty or big-name game got a 10 or 9.5, while the others got medium scores?

If you're looking for a good blog to follow, icycooL's definitely has some promise! Check it out, he's even on my blogroll. ;D

L.A. Noire Videos

Everybody has heard of the infamous Grand Theft Auto series - whether it be because of having played the game, or just through those rumors about 'hot coffee' and such. They are so popular that their developer, Rockstar Games, has boomed out to lead alongside other major developers at the head of the gaming industry. So whenever they announce a new game, it's sure to rustle some interest; so, then, what is their next game?

The answer to the question is L.A. Noire. Of the game, Wikipedia says, "As the title suggests, the game draws heavily from both plot and aesthetic elements of film noir - stylistic films from the 1940s and 1950s that shared similar visual styles and themes including crime, sex and moral ambiguity and were often shot in black and white with harsh, low-key lighting. The game uses a distinctive coloring-style in homage to the visual style of film noir. The post-war setting is the backdrop for plot elements that reference the detective films of the '40s, such as corruption and drugs, with a classical jazz soundtrack."

Of course, this game has spawned many posts on blogs and on the internet in general. One particularly interesting post is not just a post at all - rather, an entire blog, focused on L.A. Noire. It flaunts mostly pictures and videos, but there is an occasional tidbit of information. If you're interested in the newest project for the notorious Rockstar, check out L.A. Noire Videos.
