Chemistry for All: Revisited

Well, would you look at the time -- time for another Revisited post! Everybody, load up into our blogging time machine, and let us travel into the past to revisit those worthy blogs that deserve another mention. Then, we will come back to our own time, and see how they are now. We will even go into the future, to predict how they will turn out.

The Revisited feature today is all about Chemistry for All, which actually was not "Chemistry for All" back when I reviewed it here on Blogographer. Way back in the yesteryears of July 2011, this particular blog went by the name "Life in General," and though the name has changed, the look and feel have not. After all, why fix something that is not broken, right?

Here is an excerpt from the original post about this blog, on Blogographer:

Doug's Darkworld

Greetings, blogographers! In our little corner of the internet today, I will be writing about a blog that has absolutely captured my own heart, in more ways than just one. It is an elegantly written blog with a minimalist layout, allowing for the words to speak to the reader for themselves. This blog is Doug's Darkworld.

"Welcome to Doug’s Darkworld, a blog about war, mysteries, history, strange things, science, logic, photography, cosmology, paleontology, anthropology,  current events, religion, propaganda, philosophy, psychology, sociology,  ghosts, paranormal events, movies, astronomy, space exploration, metaphysics, foreign policy, propaganda, and whatever else strikes my fancy. As the esteemed Robert A. Heinlein said: 'Specialization is for insects.'"

Project Earth Rover

Does anyone remember the post I did recently on the Hampture blog, where an underwater society of hamsters was constructed for science (successfully, I might add)? If you don't, I suggest you go back and read up on it, as there's a lot of interesting (and insane) stuff in that post.

This time, I bring you the same author on a different project. For the sake of science, and battling squirrels, he has decided to do initiate Project Earth Rover, an experiment to see if remotely operated robots can do exploring for us through the forests and terrain, in a safe environment.

I Chose Hampture

I have unearthed what can, simply, only be described as the most awesome thing to happen to the blogosphere since I stopped hearing about Perez Hilton's largely worthless opinion on everything from everyone.

ONLY HAMSTER.
This monumental discovery is that of the blog I chose Hampture, whose by-line reads, "The scientific pursuit of underwater hamster objectivism." To rephrase that in a way that even remotely means something, this gem of a blog is seriously about a friggin' Hamster Rapture (or, more appropriately, Hampture).

Life in General

Science is a vastly under-appreciated niche in the world of blogging. Many people don't find science all that interesting to begin with, and sometimes you can't really blame them -- it's hard to get into a subject like that when the people explaining won't  tell you much of what you need to know before hand. Starting from the beginning, or from an easy-to-understand area, is a concept many seem to not get.

While the blog I am featuring today, "Life in General," isn't a perfect match for those looking to jump into science without any previous understanding, it is definitely a pretty good fit for those who already have some knowledge of chemistry and physics from school or personal education.

Here's an example of something you could learn on this great blog:

"In ground state the number of electrons is equal to the number of protons giving the atom a neutral charge.
In excited charge status the atom has lost/gain electrons, this can be because of a chemical reaction or radiation.

Sodium (Na) has 11 electrons, but what happens with excited Sodium (Na+1)
As you can see the charge of Sodium is +1, that indicates that the atom has lost 1 negative charge being that an electron; so excited sodium has 10 electrons, 1 less than its ground state."
Get learned at Life in General. ;D
